Hartland, WI – Serious Injuries in Two-Vehicle Accident at Hwy 29 & High Line Rd

Hartland, WI (January 20, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash involving a snowplow and a semi-tractor/trailer left one person seriously injured on Monday, January 19, near Highway 29 and High Line Road, just east of the Village of Bonduel.

Shawano County dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about the collision around 9:50 a.m. Deputies from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, along with fire and EMS units, quickly responded. Westbound lanes of Hwy 29 were blocked due to the crash.

The semi driver was trapped inside the cab and suffered injuries believed to be serious. Fire crews began extrication efforts, and ThedaStar Helicopter was called to transport the injured driver. The snowplow driver sustained minor injuries and was able to exit the vehicle without help.

Preliminary reports suggest the plow was operating in the fast lane or median shoulder while actively clearing snow. The semi was also in the fast lane and collided with the rear of the plow, pushing it into the median. The semi jackknifed into a ditch. Both vehicles were severely damaged.

Authorities continue investigating why the semi driver did not move over. The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting a commercial vehicle inspection of the semi.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Bonduel Fire Department, Bonduel EMS, and a Shawano Ambulance. Officials remind drivers to stay alert and yield to emergency and highway service vehicles.

We extend our best wishes for recovery to those injured in this crash.

Why Drivers Should Be Cautious Around Snowplows in Wisconsin

Snowplow-related crashes are more common during winter, especially on busy highways in Wisconsin. Snowplows move slowly but occupy wide areas, and visibility can be limited due to weather or the vehicle’s size. Drivers often underestimate how quickly conditions can change near plows.

Injuries in crashes with snowplows or large trucks vary but can be serious. Common injuries include fractures, head trauma, back injuries, and soft tissue damage. Even minor collisions can lead to lingering pain or require follow-up medical care.

Personal injury attorneys can help those injured in truck or snowplow accidents understand their legal options. Lawyers can review documentation, help gather evidence, and explain what types of compensation may be available. Early legal guidance can clarify potential next steps without making guarantees.
