What does SCRAM Bracelet mean?
A SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) bracelet is a lightweight ankle bracelet that measures the wearer’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) every 30 minutes. The alcohol monitoring system measures and analyzes the amount of alcohol in the wearer’s system and uses the same fuel cell technology that is found in portable breath testing devices. Except instead of exhaling into a breathalyzer, the SCRAM bracelet measures the wearer’s BAC through their sweat.
Why do I have to wear a SCRAM bracelet?
SCRAM bracelets, and other alcohol monitoring devices such as an Ignition Interlock Device (IID), can be ordered by the court as a condition of probation or as alternatives to incarnation. SCRAM bracelets are used where absolute sobriety is required by the courts such as with individuals with multiple drunk driving offenses, underage drinking, domestic violence offenses where alcohol is a contributing factor, and family court where a parent’s sobriety is a condition of custody or visitation.
The required period to wear the SCRAM bracelet varies depending on the number and severity of the offense(s) and/or the probation agent’s discretion.
What happens if you are caught drinking and receive a positive test result?
SCRAM bracelets monitor your blood alcohol concentration 24/7 and results are uploaded daily on a 24-hour basis. If there is a confirmed violation, immediate notification will occur and may result in additional charges and repercussions depending on your case.
