Milwaukee, WI – Serious Injuries in Fiery Crash on I-43 at Brown Deer Rd

Green Bay, WI – Injuries Reported in Chain-Reaction Crash on I-43 near Leo Frigo Bridge

Milwaukee, WI (June 30, 2025) – A man suffered severe injuries in a fiery crash early Saturday morning, June 28, on Interstate 43 near Brown Deer Road. The collision occurred just before 1 a.m. in a construction zone along the northbound lanes.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the crash began when a car struck a construction vehicle parked inside the active work zone. The only worker in that vehicle suffered a concussion but did not require hospitalization. The man driving the car that caused the crash sustained life-threatening injuries and was placed on a ventilator. His wife, who was in the passenger seat, was not hurt.

Shortly after the initial impact, a second vehicle carrying three teenagers returning from Summerfest crashed into the first car. None of the teens were injured.

Moments later, the vehicle carrying the injured man caught fire. Bystanders, including a paramedic and an EMT, stopped to help. A video recorded by witness Marcus Grant shows a group of good Samaritans pulling the unconscious driver from the burning vehicle just seconds before it was fully engulfed in flames.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after, and all lanes reopened by 7 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the injured man, and we wish him a full recovery.

Car Accidents in Milwaukee County Work Zones

Work zone crashes in Milwaukee County, especially along busy routes like I-43, remain a serious safety concern. Construction zones create sudden changes in road patterns, narrow lanes, and require lower speeds. Drivers who fail to slow down or become distracted can cause serious or even fatal crashes.

In this recent case, a construction worker sustained a concussion, and one driver now fights for his life. This illustrates the real risks that road workers and drivers face when traveling through active construction zones. Even when not at fault, victims can suffer lasting trauma from such events.

Distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving are among the leading causes of work zone crashes. The risk increases at night when visibility is lower and many drivers are fatigued. Accidents can happen quickly, and the injuries can be devastating.
